Moira Chicilo is an indie/folk-rock singer-songwriter originally from a small prairie town of 200 people in rural Saskatchewan, but lives in Vancouver, BC.
Her influences are Roots/Americana artists such as Lucinda Williams or Gillian Welch. Vocally she sounds like Aimee Mann (in the personability of her delivery), with a Randy Newman depth and quirk to her songwriting. Moira released 3 singles in 2023, produced by Dan Ponich (Blue Dirt Girl, Gnarwhal, Nick Stone). You can find her playing in local coffee shops and songwriter rounds in and around Vancouver, BC with her 3 piece band.
“Picking up my guitar, an act of healing for me..” ~ Moira
Carry Them With Me
“ A mellow, gentle and elegant acoustic offering, a slice of indie-folk goodness packed with introspection and relatable lyrics” — Mesmerized
Moira wrote this song after a personal experience of spending time with her extended family on the east coast of Canada. Her intimate lyrics tell the story of a bittersweet afternoon spent with her cousin Jesse. There was a sense of urgency to the conversation, knowing that this would be the last time they would all be together. With a melancholic yet uplifting tone, “Carry Them with Me” puts into sharp focus the finality of life, the enduring connection between generations, the legacy of those who came before, and the responsibility of the living to carry memories forward. The song’s tender, atmospheric quality comes from the lush acoustic fingerpicking and haunting swells of the pedal steel guitar.
